My car never had any issues until about a month ago when, while driving on the highway, it started losing speed, even though I was fully stepping on the accelerator. Pretty scary!
Anyway, after returning home from a 4 day trip, while the car kept doing the same thing in the city, I took it to the dealer. After they did an initial diagnosis, they got some error codes (P039B00, P03AF00, P030B00, P03A500) and found the oil level was below minimum mark, but no external leaks were found. Then, they did a compression test, which showed cylinder 2 at 0 psi.
Dealer submitted claim to Hyundai Canada and the asked for additional tests: valve train, wet and dry compression, leak down. After getting the results, Hyundai Canada declined the claim because the issue is not related to the rod bearing recall they had a few years ago. When I asked the dealer what the actual reason of the engine failure is, they had no answer for it. They say a partial tear down of the engine needs to be done in order to find the cause. However, they obviously won't do it on their dime.
My car has always been serviced at the dealer. Only got the engine light on once back in February and after taking the car to the dealer, they said it was because I left the gas tank lid open, and there were no issues with the car.
Anyway, has anyone have had a similar issue? By now I've learned that Hyundai has too many engine issues. However, my car is out of warranty (I had until a year ago), so obviously Hyundai is trying to ditch me.
How could it be possible that a car that never had any issues, always serviced at the dealer, never got any warnings, only 120K kms, can have a sudden engine failure? Any suggestions as to what the issue could be and how to get around it so Hyundai takes responsibility?
Thank you for reading and open to any suggestions!
